Introduction to Communication
The Outcomes for this course unit are as follows:
To be able to explain the key terms and assumptions from a range of communication theories in multiple contests, including organizational, interpersonal, mass media, culture and diversity.
To apply communication theories to interpret and illuminate particular communication scenarios and challenges.
To assess critically and compare the potential and limitations of particular communication theories.
Core topics to be discussed in this course
Fundamentals of communication, covering the basic process, principles and characteristics of communication.
Communication process looking at the three elements of communication, their definitions, roles and characters.
Intrapersonal and Interpersonal communication, to be able to define both, look at the differences and examples of both.
Media and Technology to highlight the historical development of communication technologies and their social impacts.
Ethics to address ethical considerations within the communication process
